Hiring an inexperienced developer, or hiring me
A newer developer costs less and often works hard. What you are short of is someone who has already seen how this kind of project goes wrong.
What you get
A lower rate and, often, real energy. Someone early in their career will usually take work a senior would turn down, and plenty of them learn quickly.
You also become the senior. Someone has to decide the architecture, read the code and spot what will break in a year. If nobody does, it does not get done.
Where this route is right
This is the better choice when the job is small and the mistakes are cheap: a brochure site, an internal script, a prototype you will throw away.
It is also right when you already have a senior who can review the work and you want to train someone. Paying me for that buys more than you need.
Where I am different
I have been shipping production software since January 2018, at five companies and then on my own. Much of that experience is a list of things I have already got wrong. The exam platform went down because a free-tier read quota ran out, and every list query I have written since has carried an explicit limit.
Experience also decides what happens with AI agents. An agent writes whatever it is told, with the same confidence whether the idea is good or bad. Knowing which is which is the part of the job I kept for myself.
And I can still write it by hand. When an agent goes the wrong way, I can see where, and I can take over rather than asking it to guess again.
What you can check
My side of this rests on the products below. Each one opens, and each date comes from its commit history or my own project records.
LabFlow
A multi-tenant laboratory information system across three production surfaces.
